Thank you for letting me know a little about your family tradition. Is there something that Elder Kershaw will usually order when ya'll go to the Olive Garden? Does he have a favorite item? I was going to pick up some bread sticks and salad from the Olive Garden to add to our fun, and thought I might get a little something else if he has a favorite. I'm not sure how much time they will be able to spend with us on Christmas Eve, but if he is able, our family thought we might take them along and go look at Christmas lights, if we can find a good neighborhood in Tyler : ). We usually have lots of finger foods and Christmas treats to snack on for the evening. We also do pajamas and read Luke 2 before sending everyone off to bed. We play some type of Christmas game as well. I usually find a silly one and then we play a board game of some kind. We haven't been around Elder Seaborn, so I'm not sure if he will be up for a lot of games. Elder Baldes would have been a great sport about it all. I'm sure that Elder Kershaw misses him, we sure do!
The two of them were quite a team! I have wanted to let you know how much we love your son, but another sister in my ward mentioned that she offered to take Elder Kershaw and Elder Baldes picture to send to each of their families and Elder Baldes said, No. He wasn't comfortable with doing that/maybe against a rule?? So, I didn't offer to do it.
WELL...I just happened to be talking to Ginnie Johnson from the Whitehouse Ward around two weeks ago about our great Elders when she tells me about emailing/texting you, etc. I started laughing and explained why I hadn't made any efforts to contact you or Elder Baldes family. She just smiled and said that Elder Baldes had made the same comment to her, initially, but she just pushed and he relented.
I guess I should have talked to her sooner!
We are very thankful to have your son serving our ward. He made the funniest comment the Sunday before Elder Baldes went home. He said that by now he just figured that the church would be transferring his member record to the Bullard Ward permanently, he felt like he was here to stay!
I know that he is greatly missed by your family. We, in this area, are being blessed by him. He has wonderful parents...it shows in everything he does!!
There are many Elders that come through and I love each of them, but there is something special about Elder Kershaw.
Kindest Regards,
Donella Younger
